Education for Hope : New Students starting the program May 2018

Christine is 25 years old, she sat for her secondary level when she was 20 years old. She is the first born of 13 children. Her parents are farmers, with limited resources to support education for their children. Christine is attending the Jerusalem School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira May 2018. She is pursuing a two-and-a-half-year certificate course in nursing.

Rachael is 19 years old and the last born in the family of 5 children. She sat for her secondary level 4 exams in 2015 and was the best performing student. Unfortunately, her father who was a teacher and the family supporter lost his sight. Rachael and all her sisters dropped out of school. Rachael would like to take a course in nursing with a desire to someday become a doctor. Racheal is attending the Jerusalem School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira May 2018 She is pursuing a two-and-a-half-year certificate course in nursing.

Emmanuel is 24 years old. He sat for his secondary level 4 examination in the year 2012 at the age of 18. He is the last born in the family of 5 children, his parents passed away when their 1st born was 12 years old and he was 8 months old. He and his siblings were raised by their grandparents, who supported him through farming. Emmanuel is attending the Jerusalem School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira May 2018. He is pursuing a two-and-a-half-year certificate course in nursing.

Caroline is 24 years old, in 2011 she sat for her O level exams and scored a 41aggregates. In 2016 she received an admission letter for a nursing course. She but failed to raise the required tuition, she remained home to help her single mother with farming. Caroline has never known her father. Caroline is attending The Good Samaritan International School of Nursing and Midwifery, May 2018. She is pursuing a two-and-a-half-year certificate course in nursing.

Barbra is 20 years old, she sat for her secondary level four examination in 2014 when she was 16 years and passed. She is the 1st born in the family of 6 children. Barbra is the only child in her household to continue her education. Barbra is attending St. Joseph’s Kamuli School of Midwifery & Nursing. She is pursuing a two-and-a-half-year certificate course in nursing.

Catherine is 19 years old, a first born in the family of 6 children. When she was 16 years old she sat for her senior four level exams. Due to a lack of resources she was unable to attend nursing school. Catherine is attending Lira School of Comprehensive Nursing. She is pursuing a two-and-a-half-year certificate course in nursing.

Lawrence is 21 years old, he sat for his examinations in 2017 and scored 42 aggregates. Raised by a single mother, Lawrence would assist his mother with farming to provide an income for his education. Lawrence is attending the Jerusalem School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira May 2018. He is pursuing a two-and-a-half-year certificate course in nursing.
